The Limitless Company Through the Eyes of Cisco

The concept of Borderless Networks Architecture (borderless network architecture) has become the next stage in the development of Cisco technologies designed to build corporate networks. Most likely, it will become a priority for the company in the near future. No wonder at the opening of the tenth anniversary conference Cisco Expo, held in Moscow in mid-October, Honored System Engineer Cisco Mikhail Kader presented a new initiative to the audience instead of the announced report on information security voice engineer job.

Curious parallels arise: exactly ten years ago, in October 1999, Mikhail Kader, while still a simple system engineer at the Russian representative office of Cisco, spoke about the AVVID architecture, which marked the beginning of the active introduction of voice and video services in corporate IP networks. The new architectural concept is likely to have an equally serious impact on the development of the industry. As Igor Girkin, a systems engineer at Cisco, assures, the emergence of Borderless Networks Architecture is associated with the growing popularity of collaboration between users located in different geographic locations. The "network without borders", according to the developers, should provide access to work resources and applications to any employee of the company from anywhere in the distributed network and using any device. In this case, access should be transparent,

The second generation ISRs use specialized video processors.

As the first element of the "Borderless Web", the corporation introduced a family of second generation integrated services routers. These routers are focused on supporting on-demand network service access, video streaming, and collaboration applications. According to Cisco representatives, the emergence of a new concept forces us to reconsider the principles of classification of network devices in accordance with the technologies used (equipment for switching, routing, wireless communication and security) - they have long "come together" in a single interconnected network platform focused on the provision of end services.

The presented line of integrated services ISR routers includes models for building various fragments of a distributed corporate network - from small and home offices to powerful nodes serving the headquarters of the largest corporations. The hallmark of the second generation routers is a five-fold increase in their performance compared to previous models. Particular attention is paid to supporting media networks and video applications, which are increasingly used for business purposes. Video routers use specialized processors.

Another feature of the announced equipment was support for virtualization technologies for network services and providing access to them on demand. For this, the routers have a Services Ready Engine mechanism that allows you to dynamically organize the provision of the necessary services at remote branches. Services Ready Engines can have up to 1TB of on-board memory, making them suitable for even video surveillance services.
